Patio Space
Our patio has been a little slice of heaven. It was a great project that we did last fall and it has gotten so much use this part year. We have actually used it way more than we anticipated, throughout all of our season - definitely not just a summer thing. In fact we sat around the fire pit a lot while the kids had snow ball fights in the front yard.
When we started this project we still had a fenced in yard because of our two old dogs, who were not trusted to be let free. Our Husky was known for going over 6ft fences and under them, thankfully in his old age he stopped doing that. Our original plan was to do something small that stayed inside of the fence, very very quickly that plan changed. The patio basically tripled in size when we realized everything we wanted on it, and since this is our forever home we might as well go big or go home.
We added natural field stone to outline the patio, I think it was the perfect touch and looks like it has always been there. We added a fire pit at the very end of our patio, perfect spot to enjoy our incredible view. Since we use our fire pit so much we wanted to make sure our furniture would last. We leave our Adirondack style chairs out all year long, I highly recommend these from Costco. They were really affordable, easy to put together and arrived within 3 days of me ordering them.
The plan was alway to do this patio in two stages, first stage was the main area and fire pit, second stage was to add the same fieldstone wall to the other side of the deck and replace our concrete walkway with the same pavers and finally add the outdoor kitchen. At the end of the summer we added the outdoor kitchen that has our grill, pizza oven and some drawers to hold our grilling sets. We went with natural block work to keep everything simple, and added black leather granite countertops. I didn’t want shiny granite outside, we had it at our old house and it was always dirty, the leather looks better with the stone too.
The final project to finish our backyard is our covered deck. Jeff has been working night and day to get this done before winter hits and he has done an amazing job. We added a fireplace with what will be two boxes on either side to hold firewood, and of course, a tv. Having this area really extended our outdoor living area and I cant wait to see it all finished. (Then the inside projects start!)
