Board & Batten Wall
Board & Batten Wall basically just means putting wood on your wall in a pattern or design. I really love it because its an affordable way to give a space some character and add some customization to your home.
This is super easy and you only need a few supplies.
Here’s what supplies you’ll need:
Wood/ MDF in the width you want
Nails
Liquid Nails
Wood Filler / Sandpaper
Paintable caulk
Paint
Here’s what tools you’ll need:
Saw
tape measure
Nail gun (Or Hammer)
Pencil
Putty Knife
Paint Brush
Paint Roller
Drop Cloth
Level
I left all of the measuring up to Jeff! I am not great with hanging things level, or making sure everything is equal, thats why I love gallery walls! Before you do anything, draw out your wall and measure where all of the batten boards will go and where the boards will go. Start with the whole wall framing trim pieces, attach with liquid nails and finishing nails. Next start with the vertical batten pieces. Then add in your horizontal trim pieces, make sure they are level! Fill all the nail holes with wood filler, sand, caulk all the edges and seems, then you are ready to paint. You can roll the wall but use the paint brush to paint the batten, making sure when you get to the edges that drips don’t form.
I wanted to add lighting above our nightstands but didnt have electric there and didnt want to cut our new wall. I found these battery powered lights on Amazon and they were the perfect accent.
